"Haste is a bad advisor." This popular saying allows me to clarify an aspect that was also unclear to me: how long it takes me to go from the idea in draft to the completed realization of a creation.
I tried to make a calculation and, approximately:
This is the first time I've asked myself the question of time. In my whole life I have never made a calculation in this sense but, if you are lucky enough to live long enough, sooner or later you may unexpectedly find yourself doing things you've never done before.
I don't know if the time I take is a lot or a little. I can say that I almost always like the results and, fortunately, almost always those who see them like them too. I have no idea how long it takes today to create a garment in the industrial system. It seems, however, that this system has reached its limits in terms of exploiting people, the environment, and the health of those who wear the garments.
The time I need is not continuous time, to be clear. I usually develop several projects in parallel and between the beginning and the end I also do other things because to create and realize I need breaks. Breaks made up of distractions, a chat and a couple of cigarette puffs and they allow me to focus on the projects and the finished creations.
The time I need to create allows me to stay with my ideas and see them bloom, to observe the projects that are born and to evaluate the originality of my creations even in hindsight but, above all, it allows me to make one of the most precious considerations for each of us: "I gave my best."
